History of Nepal

Nepal’s history is as breathtaking as its landscapes — a timeless story woven through ancient kingdoms, spiritual awakenings, and epic adventures. Nestled in the heart of the Himalayas, Nepal’s roots stretch back thousands of years, shaping a country rich in culture, tradition, and resilience.

The earliest settlers, believed to be the Kirats, laid the foundations of civilization here over 2,500 years ago. Later, the Licchavi dynasty (circa 400–750 AD) ushered in a golden era of art, architecture, and Buddhism, leaving behind the intricate stone sculptures and temples that still mesmerize visitors today.

During the medieval period, the Malla kings transformed the Kathmandu Valley into a cultural masterpiece, constructing the grand Durbar Squares of Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, and Patan — each a living museum of craftsmanship and history.

Nepal’s story took a defining turn in the 18th century with King Prithvi Narayan Shah, who unified the small kingdoms and gave birth to modern Nepal. Through wars, treaties, and the remarkable bravery of the Gurkhas, Nepal preserved its sovereignty even during the colonial era when much of South Asia fell under foreign rule.
