Navagrahas are the nine main celestial bodies in Hinduism that hold deity status—except for Rahu and Ketu, which are not physical celestial bodies but positions on the lunar path, symbolizing demonic forces. The nine Navagrahas are:
Sun (Surya)
Moon (Chandra)
Mars (Mangala)
Mercury (Budha)
Jupiter (Guru)
Venus (Shukra)
Saturn (Shani)
Rahu
Ketu
Each of these planets influences various aspects of our lives—such as love, marriage, career, finances, and health. While these life events may seem natural, they are believed to occur due to the position and movement of the Navagrahas in an individual’s natal chart. According to ancient tales, the Navagrahas were born from the rage of Lord Shiva.
It is believed that the Navagrahas govern our deeds (karma), desires, and their outcomes. At times, their influence can bring negative experiences such as failure, sorrow, illness, mishaps, and other challenges. These difficulties, known as Navagraha Doshas, vary in duration depending on the severity of the planetary influences and can turn peaceful lives upside down.
However, one need not be disheartened. The effects of these Doshas can be mitigated through Navagraha Puja—a powerful Vedic ritual that involves the collective worship of all nine planets. This puja has been time-tested and is considered highly effective in reversing negative energies.
The Navagraha Puja is performed by a learned Brahmin (priest) on an auspicious day (muhurat), chosen according to the individual’s horoscope to maximize the benefits. Performing this puja can bring happiness, protection from negative energies, victory over enemies, improved relationships, wealth, and overall prosperity.
